This series helps you with Japanese reading comprehension and speed with short, convenient, and interesting readings about Japanese culture and daily life in Japan.
This passage is written at the JLPT N3 level. Accordingly, it contains intermediate level grammar and kanji. But don't worry if you’re somewhere between N3 and N4 - there's a comprehensive list of Kanji readings and English vocabulary meanings at the end if you want them.
The passages for my Japanese Reading practice series come from my Japanese diary, (see my guide to writing a Japanese practice diary here to start your own). Today’s reading is about a touching and heart wrenching manga I recently read by Fujimoto Tatsuki, who also writes Chainsaw Man. Enjoy!
JLPT N3 Intermediate Level Japanese Reading Practice without Kanji Readings
最近、友達が私に漫画を貸してくれた。日本語の授業の友達とよく漫画を貸したり借りたりしてる。今回貸してもらった漫画は「ルックバック」という作品だった。有名な「チェンソーマン」と同じ作家が描いた漫画だ。
読み始めたとき、この話について何も知らなかった。だから、特に期待はしてなかった。最初は、漫画が好きな2人の女の子についてのかわいい話っぽいと思った。でも、読んでいくと、とても深い話になった。ネタバレはあまりしたくないけど、友情や悲しみ、死についての強いテーマが描かれてる。最後の数ページでは感動して泣いてしまった。
この漫画はぜんぜん長くない。1巻だけの短い話。でも、それでこんなに感動できるのはすごいと思った。日本語を練習したい人は、ぜひ読んでみてほしい。メインキャラクターの藤野の話し方はちょっと独特だけど、友達の京本の話し方は丁寧で分かりやすい。
